Regenerating soil and landscape
commited to soil and landscape restoration
Our young farmer-driven company has been created as an initiative within a landscape restoration project in the southeast part of Andalusia, in the Spanish Altiplano. This is an area among those most in danger of desertification in the world. But a unique transformation has been started in 2014, initiated and promoted by the Commonland Foundation, to realise the large-scale landscape restoration of this area. For the implementation, the most driven farmers, entrepreneurs, researchers, technicians and public entities have joined forces to establish the Association AlVelAl, uniting local people’s efforts in the regions of the Altiplano Granadino, Los Velez, Alto Almanzora and later expanded by the northwest of Murcia and the region of Guadix. This is the grounding initiative from which our company has been born.
Our purpose is to value this effort to improve our environment offer products from this territory with methods of soil and landscape regeneration, sustainable at an ecological, economic and social level, with a perspective of development and welfare of the area. All this is directed towards an ideal product ecosystem that we call the almond that combines the rain-fed almonds as the main crop with the olive tree, the vine, the cereals and the aromatic herbs with the implementation of hedges, vegetable cover, beekeeping and sustainable grazing.
from nature and its people for people and their nature
Committed to our future generations, we have a strong conviction that landscape restoration offers great opportunities for the sustainable development of people’s lives, their communities and economy while restoring vital ecosystem functions at a landscape level. By implementing an innovative 4 Returns model of landscape restoration we want to bring Inspiration, Social Capital, Natural Capital and Financial Capital back to rural areas and their inhabitants while producing healthy products of the highest quality.
We offer almonds and other products of our territory with the highest quality and full traceability
In our organic-regenerative line we combine products with the highest standards in terms of quality and in our commitment to regeneration and biodiversity of our farmers’ lands.
Our products come from a way of farming where we have a great deal of respect and stewardships for the land, especially when it comes to the regeneration of soils on degraded landscapes. This method is called Regenerative Organic Agriculture (meaning an increased biodiversity, sustainable water management, cover crops, hedges, composting, reduced tilling and pollination with bees and wild pollinators among others), which enables us on the one hand to regenerate degraded soil fertility and ecosystem functions in our territory, and on the other hand to make a contribution to climate change mitigation by sequestering CO2 from the atmosphere into the soil.
Because the health of our land matters to us!
Our flagship product is the Pepita de Oro® (Golden Nuggets), a regenerative organic, rain-fed almond of the highest quality. It is naturally large in size and not blanched to allow the skin to preserve its delicious flavour and maximum nutritional value. The Pepita de Oro® almonds have remarkably high protein content, contain significant amount of minerals, like calcium and magnesium, as well as vitamins, antioxidants and healthy fatty acids. Almonds are a key part of the authentic Mediterranean diet, and may help to prevent some of the illnesses due to our modern way of life.
Thanks to our rigorous selection and control procedures we can guarantee almonds of superior quality. This is also why our almonds are practically free of bitter almonds (<0.1%), which has become a quality problem for Spanish produce in recent years. In addition, we routinely perform analyses for food quality as well as for more than 440 pesticide residues.
Because your health matters to us!
ECOLOGICAL AND COMPOSTABLE PACKAGING
The packaging of the Pepita de Oro® is another special feature, which is made of a mixture of recycled paper from agricultural vegetable waste and an inner protective coating made of oil free wood pulp. It is certified compostable, so treat it as organic waste. With all this, our Pepita de Oro® product offers a completely sustainable, regenerative-organic and circular product, which closes the cycle from the growth of the almonds on the fields to the recycling of their packaging as compost to feed the crops again.
TRANSPARENCY AND TRACEBILITY
The origin of our almonds is exclusively from the members and collaborators of Almendrehesa within the AlVelAl territory between Guadix, Almería and the northwestern part of Murcia who have signed their commitment to regenerative organic agriculture. Because of this strong relationship with our farmers we can offer maximum transparency and traceability. You are welcome to visit our farms at any time. The processing of our almonds is done by a partner family business based in Zújar. They facilitate the entire control and production procedures of our products with the highest quality.
